| Who We Are |
|
We are advocates for victims of child abuse and domestic violence Parents Assistance Center (PAC) has been serving the Oklahoma City community since 1976. Our mission is to prevent child abuse, neglect and other family violence by strengthening the family. Most people learn about relationships and parenting from their own parents. We all tend to parent in the same manner in which we were parented. For many adults, that means following a cycle of child abuse and family violence. The cycle of abuse, neglect and family violence is not limited to any one social/economic or educational level. Parents Assistance Center plays a vital role in breaking the cycle of child abuse, neglect, and family violence for our clients.
We build strong families
Children don’t come with instruction manuals. We realize that at some point, all parents need help. In order to reach those parents who are already good parents and just want to be better, we offer our Community Based Parenting Workshops. These workshops cover many of the same topics of our Nurturing Parenting Skills but in a format that allows the participant to attend the workshops of most interest to them. We offer these workshops at area churches and to corporations as a Brown Bag Lunch Series for their employees. We are a community partner
Parents Assistance Center is a leader in the area on child abuse and domestic violence prevention. We participate on several task forces and collaborative groups including: Oklahoma Coalition for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault; ReMerge Oklahoma, a group that focuses on incarcerated women; Children of Incarcerated Parents Task Force; Foster Care Systems Improvement Task Force; Coordinated Community Response Team in Oklahoma and Logan counties which focus specifically on domestic violence; Interagency Child Abuse Prevention Task Force; the Priorities for Change in the Oklahoma Child Protection System Summit sponsored by the Schusterman Foundation; and the Oklahoma Sexual Violence Prevention Committee, to name a few.
The services offered by Parents Assistance Center are not offered anywhere else in the Metro. Parents can change the future for themselves and their children by attending group workshops and obtaining other services at PAC.
